MV Sea Chart – Local Wreck Diving
MV Sea Chart 1, was a German built cargo ship which was transporting a load of Iron wood (Teak logs) from Burma to Vietnam. The boat encounter rough weather around the coast of Thailand, started taking on water and sank just outside Thap Lamu Pier, near Khao Lak . The complete crew was thankfully rescued by the Thai navy. For many years nobody could dive the Sea Chart due to ownership rights. The owner wanted to salvage the cargo but the Thai Navy claimed they had salvage rights and the two parties are now in court.
MV Sea Chart is lying in 40metres of water. The shallowest point of the wreck is between 22 and 24 meters. There are two points of mild penetration on this wreck, the wheel house and cargo hold.
There is huge diversity of marine life on this wreck, but what really makes diving the Sea Chart special is its topography.
This Wreck dive is only for Advanced Open Water Divers with over 50 dives.
The Sea Chart is an inexpensive dive site and well worth the visit. Usually we dive the Sea Chart once and then continue to the Premchai wreck (Thai Muang Wreck).
This gives are customers the chance to visit two wrecks in one day…
This Wreck dive is only available to Advanced Divers with over 50 dives
