Khao lak Liveaboard
A Khao lak Liveaboard will either leave from Tabla mu pier or from Kuraburi pier. All depending on which dive sites the Similan liveaboards of your choose is going to dive first. If you are going straight to the Similan Islands. A Khao lak Liveaboard will leave from Tabla mu pier. From the main land of khao lak it is the closest point to the Similan Islands. So travel time is shorter on the Liveaboard from Khoa lak
If you are diving Richelieu Rock or Koh Tachai first. Then your Khao Lak liveaboard will leave from Kuraburi pier. Which is nearer to the northern dive sites. So your travel time to Richelieu rock is shorter. Kuraburi pier is 60 minutes by mini van from Khao lak. Even though the Kuraburi min van trip is an extra 60 minutes traveling time from khao lak. Both of your Similan Island liveaboard will leave the Kuraburi or Tabla mu pier at the same time. Generally departure time is 9pm from either pier.
Khao lak Liveaboard
Khao lak was a sleepy town town years ago. At that time, a Khao lak Liveaboard would have been a very basic boat Some Khao lak Liveaboards where ex fishing boats. Converted into a liveaboards. There would have been no separate bedroom. Everyone slept up stairs’ in the same room. One toilet for everyone. No privacy. If the boat made it up to the Surin islands. All depending on the weather. The crew could swap coca cola for fresh fish caught that morning from the Mokens people. That inhabit the Surin Islands. We would also bring some coloring books for the children of the Mokens Village. Life is simple in the Surin Island. The small things make the Surin people very happy.
Khao lak Now
Khao lak now, is a hub for most of the khao lak liveaboard diving trips. The day trip boats. Weather they are a speed boat or a slow boat all leave from Tapla mu pier. Most Similan liveaboards go from south to north. Starting at the Similan Islands and going after a few days to the North dive sites. Richelieu Rock, Koh Tachai and Koh Bon.
Other then the Similan Islands. The Surin, dive spots all have a huge diversity of marine life. Why not dive, Mergui Archipelago and the Burma Banks. Better still, why not go diving on them all. There are so many Liveaboards to choose from. Some many options on which destination to dive on. The only question to ask your self is. How much time do you have and how much do you want to spend on your choosenLiveaboard?
