Diving Information on the Similan Islands

Diving Information Similan Islands

Diving Information Similan Islands It may seem every dive company you go into has different information to share with you. My company is the best, my boat is better because its faster, my boat is better because its slower. This dive site is more beautiful than the other dive sites. “Yes, we are going there tomorrow.” The corals are beautiful on that dive site. “yes we are going there tomorrow”. “You have not dived in 3 years” yes of course you can dive without a scuba review, “yes we are going there tomorrow”. The prices we have outside the shop is the price for two dives but now you must pay Marine park Fee, 600 baht plus equipment rental that will be another 500 baht..  So you ask your self what is the real price? Just tell me the prices with everything included.  It’s all confusing…

What to ask your self before you go into a dive shop.

  1. What certification level are you and how many dives do you have?

You might be an open water diver with 200 dives. You could be an advanced diver with 9 dives. In my opinion you should not be in the same group. The open water diver should do an adventure deep dive, 1,500 baht. Even if you have been down to 30 meters before. If anything happens to you, the companies are not covered. so get it over with and do the adventure deep. This saves a lot of hassle and you can go anywhere in the world and go to 30 meters.

A lot of people go from open water diver to advanced diver straight away. I’m not fond of this approach but it happens. My advise is – no more course. Just dive and dive to get more experience

  1. When was the last time you dived?

If its been over a year. Do a scuba review. You will feel much more comfortable in the water and not waste your dive time trying to remember how to stay neutrally buoyant in the water. On the other hand you could be an experienced diver with over 150 dives but you have not dived in over a year. That a different situation and will be handled in a different way.

  1. Your medical history

If you have had any medical changes in your life. Are you taking any medication? ie antidepressants, inhalers. if yes,  Please get a diving Doctor in your own country to write you a letter saying it’s safe for you to go diving. If you don’t have a diving doctor saying this most of the companies will not let you go diving. So be prepared. There is  one company I know of, will let you go diving but really do you think they care if anything happens to you. It’s only diving and not worth it. Being safe is the most important thing.

  1. Insurance

If you have travel insurance Please ask what it covers exactly. They might not cover you if you need to go to the chamber. This is very costly. So check what the coverages is. Most companies will have extra insurance, 200 baht per day.

  1. Pirate divers works as an independent operator

What that means is, I will tell you the truth. With your certification and knowledge information. I will help you choose what dive trip is suited to you. So you don’t have to walk around all the dive companies and find out the difference prices and dive sites schedules, because I have them all.  Some companies form of transport to the Similan Islands is different from other companies,  Some dive sites I would never put an experience diver on and vice versa. You will pay NO extra for this service. The companies pay me. It’s a win, win situation for both of us!
