Discover Scuba Diving – Similan Islands

Peter walked it to Pirate divers four days ago. He has dived all over the world and i must say I was very impressed with the dive sites he has dived, As we continued talking I realized Peter had no certification. All his dived have been as a DSD  (Discover scuba diver)  this allow you to dive to 12 meter with an instructor. There is no certification attached to a DSD, but you do have to do the first part of the open water diver course which is four basic skills

  • regulator recovery
  • clear regulator – using your own breath
  • clear regulator – using the purge button
  • mask clearance

I asked Peter why he never did the open water course. Why only do Discover scuba diver. He said he just never got around to it. After the dive, I asked his Instructor Caro. How did Peter get on in the dive. She had a glowing report, about how good Peter was under water. Peter came into Pirate Diver a few days later, to say what a great time he had. Later i received an e-mail from Peter saying….

Hi Brenda

Here I am back in frozen England after having a great holiday in Thailand.

Just a brief note to thank you once again for such a great dive with Caro. She was immensely patient with me and professional. Please pass on my warmest thanks to her.

A fantastic boat and a great place to dive.

I hope I will be back with my Padi certificate next time.

All the very best.

Regards

Peter Gordon

What a lovely person, Peter is. Lets hope we meet each other under the water some day as a certified Open Water Diver and Not a discover scuba diver. The Discover scuba diver is a brilliant skill to have achieve but it’s more expensive than doing an open water dive. Mainly due to the fact you must have an in structure with you. While you are doing the Discover scuba
