Advanced Course in Similan Islands
As an open Water diver you can go to 18 meters but as an Advanced open water diver you can go to 30 meters. why go to 30 meters – Because there is a lot more to see at 30 meters then 18 meter. Also the Advanced Course in Similan Islands has great dive sites for the Advanced course.
One thing that’s great about the Advanced course is that it is so easy. In the open water there are DVDs to watch, quizzes to answer, a final exam to finish and skills to repeat. In the Advanced course you choose 5 adventure dives. It’s your choice on what you want to learn. All you have to do is answer the knowledge review at the end of each chapter. You will learn a great deal on the advanced course but you will not have the pressure that you experienced on the open water course.
Adventure Dives

Adventure Dives, I would recommend and Why?
- Deep dive – it’s the reason why you should do the advanced courses 30 meters
- Navigation – mandatory for the course, i do prefer natural navigation.
- Peak performance buoyancy – better understanding about buoyancy techniques
- night dive – completely different, diving in the dark
- fish identification – you will learn about marine life and it’s fun.
Personally, I think the Advanced course in Similan Islands is more enjoyable on a liveaboard. The reason is, because you get to spend more time with your instructor and get a greater understanding of what you’re learning. Staying on the liveaboard gives you the opportunity to practice all you have been shown at a relaxed pace. Also when you are diving on a liveaboard you get to dive all the best dive sites first thing in the morning, before all the other divers are awake. so there is nobody around to disturb the fish except you and your buddy.
Diving on a Similan Liveaboard allows you do do either a night dive or sunset dive. I always recommend to do both. One day night dive next day sunset dive. Take in account which will be better for either dive. Ask your guide for his/her advice on which dive site suits a night or sunset better.
The Advance course is better, if you can get your Advanced open water book before the Similan Liveaboard begins. That why, there is no reading between dive sites. Only relaxation and food.
After you liveaboard. You will be bought back to your hotel. where normally, everyone that you have met, will meet up later for dinner and drinks in a restaurant. You always met like minded people on a liveaboard. Where fun, relaxation and a great appreciation of the underwater world is important to everyone on your Similan liveaboard
