Manta Ray Ko Bon

Ko Bon – Similan Islands

Koh Bon is an isolated inlet north of the Similan Islands. Most of the Similan liveaboards will moor in the bay of Ko Bon, Where they can get away from any strong winds. If you look directly at Koh Bon from the bay you will see an oval opening submerging from the sea. It’s not advisable to go through this opening but some have and they have the marks to prove it.

West Ridge

Map of Ko Bon

Ko Bon

Underwater the west ridge is a perfect place to see giant oceanic manta rays. The two currents meet here at the end of the west ridge and it’s a great feeding ground for these amazing creatures. This area is very beautiful with small little crevices for all small creatures to hide in. Ko Bon is covered in hard and soft coral.

The great thing about Ko Bon is that – Discover scuba diversOpen Water Course Advanced Course  and Snorkelers can all enjoy the beauty of Koh Bon in the bay or on the ridge.

Ko Bon Pinnacle

Ko Bon Pinnacle is a great dive site for an inexperienced diver but it is also exciting dive site for an experienced diver. You can be an advanced diver with 9 dives but no experience. Koh Bon Pinnacle is 45 meters deep and you go around the top of the dive site as you shallow up to the top of the pinnacle.
Some companies try to make it back to the ridge. That’s fine if your good on air. Otherwise, if you are bad on air, you can do your safety stop in the open sea, which is not a problem.
Again, expect the unexpected. On Ko Bon we have seen mantas, white tips, eagle rays, reef sharks, and giant blotched string rays.
